For the last two years marketers have been pushing qr codes and even though a majority of the content stinks, there are some great applications for QR codes so I hope they do not go the way of the laserdisc.
Of all the places I see QR codes, I think America's airports have the highest concentration of QR codes. And what place better for QR codes. Everyone has a smartphone it seems, theres plenty of time to waste, and ads are a big part of airport decor.
As I sit here in the Houston airport, burning an hour before my next flight, I am in the United terminal looking at a QR code to download the United app.
Despite all the QR code placements, I never see anyone walking up to a poster to scan a code. They codes all serve a marketing function. Why not try and use them to get you to share something on facebook are play a quick game. Advertising does not need to be so overt.
I paused writing this to board the plane and on my way walk to the plane I paused to take another picture of a United QR code. I hear a middle aged woman behind me (luckily no annoyed, I was holding up the line) say, "Oh' thats what those things are, they are apps." well...kinda I guess.
